No Driving Allowed? In New York City?!
New York City is known for its great theaters, cutting-edge fashion scene, and the giant Central Park. It's also known for its heavy traffic, loud honking horns, and bright yellow taxis. But this summer, the famous city is trying to shed that image a bit by banning cars from a special route so that people can have the run of the streets.
The experiment will take place on three Saturdays in August.
"We anticipate that hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors will take advantage of streets temporarily opened for recreation," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "We hope the Summer Streets experiment will become as much a part of the New York experience as strolling the Coney Island boardwalk, participating in the 5-borough bike tour, or listening to the Philharmonic in the park." Police will make sure that the streets stay carfree on August 9, 16 and 23 from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be bike rentals, classes in fitness and dance, and more along the route too.
What would you like to do on the streets if only people -- not cars -- were allowed? Tell us by clicking on Comments below.

If there were only people on the streets, I'd jaywalk to my heart's content!

We should have a parade right there.
